Lori Kettelle, mastermind behind PVDonuts, is bringing us something we didn’t even know we needed: gourmet donuts. The pastries have certainly been a staple in a Rhode Islander’s diet for ages. But a gourmet, locally sourced, and hand-made option has been far from our reach. Until now.
Kettelle has an impressive repertoire of bakery experiences in her past. PVDonuts began as a weekend side job, as she initially only distributed her delicacies through wholesale. The whirlwind that ensued after was far from what she expected. The demand was so high that—to our delight—she is taking the donut business on full-time. PVDonuts was born.
I asked Kettelle what sets her apart from the glaringly obvious competitors. “Quality,” she says promptly. “These donuts are not meant to be a toothache.” They’re made with fluffy and buttery brioche dough that is raised for twenty-four hours. TLC like that is bound to produce a delectable result.
Now that I’ve got your mouth watering, you’ll be happy to know that PVDonuts is launching the weekend of Saturday, May 28th and Sunday, 29th at 9 a.m. PVDonuts is currently housed with Sin Bakery on 200 Allens Avenue. However, their logo will be clearly seen on the street corner. A parking lot is located behind the building, though it may be packed during the grand opening. Perhaps go on foot and walk off that donut?
Cold brew and hot coffee will also be available opening weekend and Kettelle plans on expanding coffee options after that. Sin Bakery goodies will be at your fingertips as well. “I’m excited” Kettelle says with a nervous smile. She definitely should be, as we sense that a Rhode Island donut sensation is on the horizon.
